Hospice penguins back for more with an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt

Categories: Community Engagement.

Over 300 penguins will find themselves in unfamiliar territory in November as an East London children’s hospice defends its existing GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest gathering of people dressed as penguins at the Scoop in Central London.

The world record attempt is taking place in the shadow of City Hall and Tower Bridge on the evening of Wednesday 12 November, before the penguins waddle the 2km course. Richard House Children’s House is hoping to raise at least £30,000 from the event and be part of an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt – just in time for the 10th annual Guinness World Records Day 2014.

The charity is looking to break its own record, set last year, when 325 people dressed as penguins braved the cold before a 2km in Canary Wharf.

The Penguin Waddle is supported by Pension Insurance Corporation and Richard House patron Tommy Walsh, star of TV’s Ground Force, will be at the event supporting and cheering on the penguins.

Events and Community fundraiser at Richard House Hannah Bosley said: “We have already got over 250 penguins signed up for the event, so we are confident about breaking the record, but we need more penguins to be sure! We are delighted that Pension Insurance Corporation have chosen to sponsor the event again. It’s a great event and a really fun way of raising funds for children with life-limiting health conditions and their families.”
