Whiteknights Emergency Voluntary Service is a charity which has a fleet of volunteer motorcyclists around the South Yorkshire area. They provide a voluntary urgent courier service, completely free of charge.
The new partnership between the bikers and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston, Sheffield, means that emergency equipment, treatments or bloods can be taken to and from the children’s hospice to locations including hospitals and family homes.
This will enable the hospice’s specialist care team to respond even quicker to emergencies, further enhancing the quality of care provided to the children and families staying at or transferring to Bluebell Wood.
Julie Devine, director of care at Bluebell Wood, said: “We are really pleased to be able to partner with the Whiteknights. Their work will be invaluable to us as a care team and to the families who depend on our services.
“We have a dedicated, specialist care team who support children and their families here in the hospice and also in the community. We will now be able to call upon the Whiteknights in an emergency to pick up and deliver vital medications, bloods or equipment they can carry.
“Saving this time is essential in ensuring that children and families receive the very best medical care and will potentially allow families to have more time with their loved ones.”
Terry Dutchburn, Chairman of Whiteknights, added: “We are very proud to be working together with Bluebell Wood. I think it’s great that two very worthy charities can be seen to be working together for the benefit of the children and their families at a time when the families need as much support as they can be given.”
