2023 World Hospice and Palliative Care Day Community Strengthening Webinar

Categories: Community Engagement and Featured.

The Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) launched the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) 2023 toolkit on 1 June 2023. The theme for WHPCD is Compassionate Communities: Together for Palliative Care and this year’s World Day will be on 14 October. World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) is a unified day of action in support of hospice and palliative care. Palliative care is an interdisciplinary caregiving approach that optimises quality of life and mitigates health related suffering among people with very serious illnesses and their carers. WHPCD has been marked every year for the last 17 years.

The WHPCA will host a WHPCD community strengthening toolkit webinar on 20 June 2023 at 09:00 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada) and we would like to invite you to register in advance HERE. The purpose of hosting the webinar is to walk you through the toolkit to help you better understand how to use it effectively together with the resources available for download on our website. We will discuss the importance of compassionate communities, why they exist, and why we need such communities. We will also discuss the importance of compassionate communities through lived experience and how to effectively use WHPCD to advocate for palliative care services and the inclusion of palliative care in Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Will you be having an event on World Day? We would love to know all about it. Please feel free to register your event on the WHPCD global map HERE.

On 17 May 2023, The WHPCA hosted a UHC Advocacy Guide Webinar. The webinar had Stephen Connor, WHPCA Executive Director, Helena Davies, WHPCA Advocacy Officer and Alex Daniels, ICPCN Education Manager as the speakers who discussed the practical use of the advocacy guide to anyone wishing to advocate to policy makers for both adults and children at national, regional, district or local levels. The advocacy guide can be amended to be context specific, and advice is provided on how to do this and further guidance on how to use it effectively. You can find the webinar recorded in two parts on the WHPCA YouTube Channel. Please find the recording in PART 1 and PART 2.

Join us on 20 June as we unpack the toolkit and guide you to an effective WHPCD 2023 and we look forward to hosting you and interacting with you. Please register and mark your calendar. Share this information with your networks and tell a friend to tell a friend. We will see you there.
