Baroness Ilora Finlay, professor of Palliative Medicine at Cardiff University and life peer of the UK’s House of Lords, gave a presentation on children’s palliative care.

Emmanuel Luyirika, executive director of the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) updated delegates on the organisation’s progress in palliative care in Africa, while Liliana de Lima, executive director of the International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) shared highlights of IAHPC’s work in advancing palliative care internationally.

WISH was launched in 2013 by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

The events brings together decision-makers and influencers from across the world to discuss practical, lasting and innovative solutions to global healthcare challenges.

Seven Forums have been established for WISH 2015. Each will be chaired and led by a recognized expert in the topic. That chair will lead a working group of experts drawn from government, academia, and industry.

The Forums are:

  • Communicating complex health messages
  • Delivering affordable cancer care
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Patient safety
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing in Children, and
  • Universal Healthcare Coverage.

Each Forum has published a report, aimed at policy makers and healthcare innovators.

The Forum reports are available to download from the WISH 2015 website.
