The resource pack, ‘Supporting people with dementia at home’, has been developed by Alzheimer’s Society, working with homecare specialists.
The pack includes a DVD featuring people with dementia, their family members and those who care for them, and demonstrates examples of how person-centred dementia care can make a real difference. Facilitator notes, learner notes and exercises are also included.
The pack consists of four modules, covering:
- the experience of dementia
- communication and behaviour
- person centred approaches
- wellbeing and relationships.
Each modules equates to about half a day’s worth of training.
800,000 people living with dementia
Two thirds of the 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK live in the community and almost a third of all people with the condition live alone.
Hilary Barrett, national manager education and development at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “While staying at home is not right for everyone we know many people want to remain in familiar surroundings with family or loved ones for as long as possible. The right training and tools can help change lives. It leads to better care and a happier environment.”
The resource pack costs £249 + VAT. For more information and to purchase the pack, email dementiatraining@alzheimers.org.uk or call 01904 633581.
