Reserved Matters approval has now been granted for the new Heart of Kent Hospice building at Greensand Place, Linton. This milestone follows the outline planning permission granted in March 2025 for a comprehensive development, which encompasses not only the hospice but also a care home, assisted living accommodation for young adults, and affordable bungalows for those over 60.
The essential infrastructure to support the project is already being delivered. Alan Firmin Ltd, the landowners, are funding key works including the access road and drainage systems, which will serve all elements of the wider development. The completion of these works is anticipated by the end of the year.
Ann-Marie Kelly confirmed as permanent Chief Executive
This news comes in the same week that Interim Chief Executive Ann-Marie Kelly was confirmed as the permanent Chief Executive at Heart of Kent Hospice. Ann-Marie said: “The approval of the Reserved Matters application was the perfect way for me to begin my new tenure, and we can now launch the all-important Capital Campaign to raise the £12M required to build the new hospice.
“Our hospice team has been deeply moved by the amazing support received for our future plans, particularly the extraordinary legacy gift from Edwina and David Bicker, who left 75% of their estate—almost £3 million—to the hospice. This generous contribution has kickstarted the fundraising campaign in a phenomenal way.”
“With Reserved Matters approval now in place, building works for the new hospice must commence within the next three years. As we move forward with fundraising for the new hospice, we must also continue to fundraise for the existing Aylesford hospice. We have to raise over 80% of the £7.6 million annual running costs every year to continue providing outstanding care to the community we support.
“Heart of Kent Hospice remains committed to being there for people with terminal illness in Maidstone and the surrounding areas for many years to come. The organisation’s focus, ambition, and dedication to its community remain steadfast.”
