On 20 June 2024 a planning application was approved by Maidstone Borough Council Planning Committee to enable Heart of Kent Hospice to relocate from Aylesford to a new site in Linton.
Rachel Street, Chief Executive at Heart of Kent Hospice said:
“We are delighted that we can now move forward with our plans to build a new Hospice to meet the growing needs of the community in Maidstone and its surrounding areas.
“Every day, people find their lives are turned upside-down by terminal illness. The Hospice can help them live as well as possible, with independence, in comfort and with dignity until the end of their lives and can support those closest to them
As our population ages, we will see more deaths than births in the UK and the number of people aged over 85 is expected to almost double. Now, with the help of our partners and supporters, we can forge ahead with plans to build a beautiful, modern Hospice, centred in our community, that will provide outstanding, personalised care for generations of families in the future.
“The next steps will involve more detailed planning and raising the money to make the vision a reality and we want to thank all those who are backing our plans at this pivotal moment in our history. We are eager to ensure that our new Hospice will be a special and welcoming hub for our entire community.”

About Heart of Kent Hospice
Heart of Kent Hospice has been providing free, compassionate, end-of-life care to people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge and Malling and the surrounding towns and villages for the past 33 years.
The Hospice has built an excellent reputation within the local community for the quality of its care, which has been further endorsed by the Care Quality Commission who awarded us with an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ following an inspection in February 2017.
Our vision is for everyone living with a terminal illness in our community to achieve the best quality of life. We are committed to achieving this by enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, and to support those closest to them.
Last year the Hospice cared for over 2,000 patients and their families in their own homes or at our Aylesford-based Hospice. Our charity needs to raise £6 million to deliver all the Hospices services, and we depend heavily on our loyal community of supporters, whose generous donations and fundraising activities raise money for us every year.
