Between 10am and 12pm tomorrow (8 March 2013), the helpline will be answering questions through the Institute of Fundraising’s Facebook page, and will be replying to tweets on their @ioftweets Twitter account and the hashtag #iofhelp. In the future, the helpline will be answering questions online on the first Friday of every month.
The policy helpline takes queries from anyone interested in fundraising, whether it is a national charity, an individual member of the public, a community group or a professional fundraiser. Questions can cover topics such as fundraising events, data protection, the Code of Fundraising Practice and anything about the finer points of fundraising strategy.
Last year, the IoF’s policy team managed 1,500 phone enquiries and 1,200 email enquiries.
Susan Luxford, new digital communications manager, said: “These enquiries come from the very biggest to the very smallest charities, community groups, professionals and individuals with an ill family member. There’s a need for good advice, and we’ve developed a way of ensuring that we provide support in ways that meet people’s needs.
“Increasingly, people use the internet to find help and advice when and where it suits them. So, we wanted to explore and extend our services to make the best use of digital media to meet the precise needs of fundraisers.”
