The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Steve Smith has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of St Christopher’s Hospice. Steve, who is well known and highly respected in the hospice sector, will join St Christopher’s later this year.
Steve, is currently CEO of Havens Hospices in Southend-on-Sea, and has been with the charity for the past 10 years, 6 as CEO. Prior to that Steve was Vice Principal at Legra Academy Trust.
During his time at Havens Hospices, Steve has led significant change and sustained improvement at the hospices and led a £17m project to build a new hospice inpatient unit.
Commenting on Steve’s appointment St Christopher’s Chair of Trustees, Neil Goulden, said:

St Christopher’s has always remained true to Cicely Saunders’ legacy as a pioneering and progressive hospice serving the people of South East London.
Steve is an innovative and ambitious leader who will be an ideal fit for St Christopher’s going forward. The hospice sector faces multi challenges at the moment and that requires strong leadership in the hospice and the sector.
I would like to record my thanks to the fantastic leadership team at St Christopher’s who have driven the organisation forward over the past 6 months, and in particular I would like to thank our Interim Chief Executive, Jan Noble, who has provided inspirational leadership throughout a period of inevitable uncertainty.”
Commenting on his appointment, Steve said:

St Christopher’s is a beacon for incredible palliative end of life care with a growing reputation nationally and internationally. I am looking forward to getting started and to meeting my new colleagues and the people that we serve in South East London.”
Until Steve joins us the current interim arrangement will continue, led by Jan Noble as Interim Chief Executive, supported by our tremendous Executive Team.
