Sarah Brocklebank, chief executive of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care in Surrey, has announced her plans to retire.
Sarah joined Phyllis Tuckwell in 2005. Her most notable achievements have included stabilising the charity’s finances with a strong balance sheet and a clear strategy. From a predominantly inpatient-based model, services have developed over the past 15 years to include Care at Home and Living Well services, supporting patients and families in their own homes and earlier in their illness. She also oversaw the transfer of the Beacon Centre, a community service based in Guildford, to Phyllis Tuckwell in 2015.
Sarah said: “Leading this great charity through a period of massive change and development, providing care and support for patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, has been a huge privilege. I’ve been blessed to have worked with a dedicated team who rank highly both in success and job satisfaction.
“In addition, the help and support Phyllis Tuckwell receives from its army of volunteers has been humbling. None of this would have been possible without generous support of individuals and businesses throughout our community who enable us to provide our much-needed services and, as we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, I know there is a bright future ahead.”
Michael Maher, Chair of Trustees, said: “Sarah has been a tremendous leader for Phyllis Tuckwell, not only guiding our delivery of care to an increased number of local people, but she will leave the charity next year in a much stronger position than when she joined nearly 15 years ago.
“From caring for 100 people a day, we now look after 250 people a day and our annual turnover under her tenure has grown from £3.5m to £10.5m.
Sarah has announced her intentions to retire early and will continue in her role until the end of March 2020, to give us time to find a suitable successor.
On behalf of the Board we wanted to offer our heartfelt thanks to Sarah for her many years of dedicated service to this amazing charity. When she leaves in March 2020, she will be greatly missed.”
