The booklet ‘Looking After Me’ was created in collaboration between the charity Target Ovarian Cancer and patients, oncologists and palliative care experts from the hospice to provide information and help the 4,000 women who die each year of ovarian cancer.
The booklet contains sections by various members of staff from the Hospice of St Francis, including:
- The importance of thinking about the future and planning ahead, written by Sarah Russell, director of education and research.
- Detailed descriptions of symptoms and how they might be helped, written by Fay Richardson, community clinical nurse specialist.
- Comments on support for the family and children who are facing the loss of their mum, written by Dr Ros Taylor, hospice director.
The booklet is available to download from the Target Ovarian Cancer website. Hard copies can also be ordered for free by contacting the charity. Clinical nurse specialists have been encouraged to provide copies for the people they see.
The project has been hailed a really successful example of collaboration between two charities that simply shared expertise but not funds.
