Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice provides community, hospital and inpatient specialist palliative and supportive care to people with terminal illness and their families within the London boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.

The Hospice is seeking an energetic and motivated Volunteers Manager to join our team. If you want to make a difference by supporting the Hospice to develop and implement our volunteering strategy so that we the whole community are supported to access quality, compassionate palliative and end of life care; we would like you to get in touch.

Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary range: Agenda for Change – Band 5 £22,480 – £29,947.07

Working as part of the Hospice’s Management Team, the Volunteers Manager will be responsible for all aspects of volunteering strategy and supporting managers to ensure volunteers are well supported across the Hospice, ensuring added value to the organisation as a whole, service users and staff.

The Hospice is implementing a new 3 year strategy and volunteers are seen as a significant part of the Hospice’s future; developing and retaining existing volunteers and attracting others to work with us to provide care to people with terminal illness across the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley, support the staff team to generate charitable income to fund services and to provide support in our ‘back office’ departments.

Experience in Volunteer Management within the charitable sector is essential, including experience of volunteer recruitment, retention and development. The successful applicant will also have experience of designing and delivering training; as well as knowledge of current volunteering practice and be an approachable and confident communicator who wants to make a difference in the local community.

With around 550 volunteers, the ability to prioritise effectively and to think creatively is important, with experience of policy development to ensure our practices are as efficient as possible. An understanding of equal opportunities is essential, as is the ability to engage fully with the local community, raising the profile of the Hospice as a great place to volunteer.
