Attention all nurses committed to changing the experience of adults and children living and dying with serious illness.
- Do you believe that nursing efforts could be transformational in the experience of life, death and grief of people affected by life limiting illness?
- Do you have ideas about the place of nursing in such transformation? Are there ways for you to make this happen in your country?
If you have ticked yes to any of these questions, we think that an upcoming conference on future opportunities for the pioneering nurse could be something in which you would be interested.
Meet Stella, a pioneering nurse working in Kenya, who has been an inspiration for the conference. Stella (shown second right in this photograph) a skilled palliative care nurse, works as a tutor at a medical training college in Nairobi and is also committed to a death literacy programme with the Masaii community which she leads in her spare time.
She, and 29 other nurses have been part of an exciting network of nurses meeting regularly to support and develop each other in their ambitions to build and transform nursing. We want to share their learning and provide an additional opportunity for nurses with the passion and commitment of Stella to meet others with similar ambitions. And if any of that sounds like something you are interested in then do think about joining us for some or all of an exciting and flexible programme planned for next Thursday, the 2nd December 2021. You can dip in and out and the programme is designed to work in different time and language zones around the world.
Through this network we have met and got to know Professor Julia Downing who like Stella has helped shape thinking and intentions about supporting nursing into the future. She will be known to many of you through her work to support and promote children’s palliative nursing and she will be speaking at this conference about her own journey as a pioneer nurse, as encouragement to others earlier in their career. If this sounds interesting, add in lead nurses from Beirut, Uganda, Canada and Romania who are driving policy, curriculum development, service improvements and nurse development to improve care, and you start to see how rich the conference programme will be. There is something for anyone who wants nursing to be transformative in its efforts, within and beyond end-of-life care.
The conference takes place next Thursday – the 2nd Dec 2021. Hosted jointly by the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) and St Christopher’s CARE the programme offers exciting presentations from nurses who believe passionately in their profession and its potential impact, and networking opportunities for anyone who is interested how they could develop and do something similar. You might be at the start of your career or well advanced in it. There is something for everybody and we expect attendance from all parts of the world. It is free to attend and virtual.
