Advanced palliative care professionals from around the globe have assembled in London for an intensive week of training in advanced concepts in hospice and palliative care.
Building on the established Multi-Professional Week, the course is designed for experienced practitioners, clinical managers and educators in palliative and end of life care. It is a free-standing course, so can be taken without having attended the Multi-Professional Week.
The course began on Monday 29 April and runs to Friday 3 May 2013, offering an end of life care agenda to participants.
MP Plus is designed to push the boundaries of good clinical care for advanced practitioners, with tutoring around manageable practice development in the student’s work place.
In recognition that advanced practitioners may require a more specialist curriculum, the course tutors are offering multiple choices on the week’s timetable. This will enable participants to construct their own individual programme of learning in addition to the main plenary sessions.
Dame Barbara Monroe, chief executive at St Christopher’s, and senior clinical staff from the hospice, will speak at the event.
Learning outcomes of MP Plus include:
- consideing the latest developments in palliative and end of life care
- reviewing key evidence underpinning practice
- appreciating principles of practice, service development and innovation
- reflecting on leadership, self-awareness and personal strategies for advancing practice
- planning innovation in the workplace.
The course is offered annually by St Christopher’s Hospice education centre and is open to either:
- experienced practitioners with three years working in end of life care
- clinicians and practitioners already having undertaken MP Week
- generalists working in end of life care in senior roles (clinical managers, educationalists).
MP plus is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians.
